May is Still Coffee Cake Month

Well, I was going to take another week off, but I am extremely bad with dates. I mentioned something about returning in time for Mother’s Day, so here I am. What I meant was that I would be returning the following week.

It’s just as well, since I felt compelled to put up an emergency blog post this morning.

You see, it is seven days into Coffee Cake Month and I have yet to be sent one. It’s a horrible state of affairs.

Not-so-coincidentally, the seventh day of Coffee Cake Month happens to be the birthday of its creator, Nicky Dunbar.

Sadly, Mr. Dunbar is currently living in Alberta, Canada and cannot be reached by freshly baked, San Francisco-made coffee cakes. This unfortunate fact of distance, however, did not prevent me from making one in his honor. I shall let him look at it, since it turned out so well. If he is kind, I shall send him the recipe. If he is kinder, I shall make one for him in person.

That said, I shall do my best to eat it myself and share a slice or two with others, therefore spreading the word of this soon-to-be popular awareness month.

May also happens to contain a little-known holiday called Mother’s Day, as if mothers aren’t mothers every single day of the year as it is. I’ve never understood why these women would want or need one, specific day to be extra motherly. If anything, I would think they’d like to take at least one day off from such heavy responsibility. If your mother finds that she needs such a day off, why not bake her a coffee cake to show her how self-reliant you are and that you don’t really need her anymore?

Nothing says love like “I can do it all by myself.”

Send coffee cake now, please. Send it to your mother, send it to me. And, if you happen to know the ins and outs of the Canadian Postal Service, send one to Mr. Dunbar. Hell, just send coffee cake to anyone and everyone you know.

    I’m pretty kind . . .

I have made an orange ricotta coffee cake and crumb coffee cake, this month. I had no idea I was merely following the orders of Mr. Dunbar. It is unnerving to find that one does not have free will.

However sadly neither you nor Mr. Dunbar have made yourselves accessible for coffee cake delivery.

Orange ricotta coffee cake? How can I make myself available for coffee cake delivery?

And, yes, it is unnerving about one’s lack of free will, especially since Mr. Dunbar is concerned. He has the bad habit of bending people’s wills to suit his own purposes. He makes people fly to Paris when they have no money. He makes them send him things like coffee cake and marshmallows. It’s terrible, I tell you, just terrible.

I would like to subscribe to Mr. Dunbar’s course in How to Bend Other’s to One’s Will. Is it mail order? CCOD – coffee cake on delivery?

And since I’m now commuting up to SF, coffee cake deliver there is probably much more feasible.
